Airlines are typically defined by their route networks. A carrier’s ability to succeed or fail in the market is typically based on whether it can consistently fill its aircraft, and whether it can get passengers to fly where the airline is operating flights. Typically, airlines operate out of just a few hub airports, and funnel passengers through these major hub airports on connecting flights, something which allows carriers to serve as many destinations as possible with as few flights as possible.
