Dozens of airports across Europe have continued to grow through the gradual expansion of legacy airline networks over the decades. Carriers like Air France, Lufthansa and British Airways have continued to invest in their principal hub airports, through which they transfer large amounts of passengers. These carriers operate what are known as hub-and-spoke networks, in which passengers are all funneled through a central hub in order to efficiently transfer them from dozens of cities across the globe.
