NJ Transit to Construct New MOW Facility

By Railfan & Railroad Staff

The Federal Transit Administration announced in February that it was awarding a $75 million grant to NJ Transit to construct a new maintenance of way facility in Clifton, N.J., to replace an obsolete and flood-prone one in nearby Wood-Ridge.

The old facility was damaged during Hurricane Ida in 2021. It is used to maintain MOW and signal equipment to serve NJT’s Main, Bergen County and Pascack Valley Lines. The new facility, currently in the preliminary design phase, will be located on NJT property in Clifton which is on higher ground.

“This $75 million grant for a new rail maintenance facility in Clifton is a much-needed investment in resilient infrastructure in a flood-prone area of our state,” said U.S. Senator Cory Booker. “This more sustainable, modern facility will help improve safety and reliability for commuters for years to come.”
