Victoria will for the first time become a net winner from the annual GST carve-up after heavy spending in the pandemic and a rebound in population growth mean the state has been assessed as financially needy.
Uncomfortable with headlines that constantly bash Victoria’s state debt which is both:
A) no longer particularly bad, and
B) largely the result of public health measures Victoria took in 2020 and 2021 that successfully prevented covid from becoming endemic.

This debt has nothing to do about infrastucture spending despite clueless politicians seeking to make political statements about the state of the debt in Victoria. Even more uneducated are those who continually post on social media about the Suburban Rail Loop and how Victoria cannot afford it.
