Russia bombed Ukrainian Railways power infrastructure in the early morning hours of 19 March. The attack comes mere hours after Russian president Vladimir Putin made a promise to US president Trump, saying that Russia would not attack Ukrainian energy facilities for 30 days. Energy infrastructure elsewhere in the country also fell victim to aerial attacks.
The attack on Ukrainian Railways infrastructure took place in the Dnipro region in central Ukraine. The rail operator says that trains are still running on schedule despite electricity outages on some sections.
Russia did not limit its attack to just a single strike. “While the aftermath was being dealt with, the enemy launched a second strike. Fortunately, there were no casualties”, writes Ukrainian Railways on LinkedIn.
Other places in Ukraine also under attack
Moreover, energy infrastructure in Slovyansk in eastern Ukraine became the target of an attack. As a result, parts of the city lost power. The attack in the city reportedly took place less than an hour after Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump agreed on a ceasefire for strikes against energy infrastructure.
During the same night, a medical facility in Sumy, a residential area in Kramatorsk and capital city Kyiv were also targeted by drones.
