STADLER is to build a new rolling stock commissioning centre in Hennigsdorf, Germany, that it expects to open by 2027. The Swiss manufacturer has acquired a 4.6ha site near Berlin, where it will commission regional, S-Bahn and metro trains built at the nearby Berlin-Pankow plant.
Existing buildings at the site will be refurbished and extended and a new acceptance centre built. The facility will include over 1.3km of covered track, as well as 700m of test tracks equipped with both overhead and third rail electrification for outdoor dynamic testing.
Stadler’s existing commissioning centre in Velten, also near Berlin, will be repurposed as a maintenance centre when the Hennigsdorf site opens.
“Stadler is already firmly connected to the Berlin-Brandenburg metropolitan region at several locations,” says Mr Jure Mikolčić, CEO of Stadler Germany. “Our commissioning centre in Velten is now reaching the limits of its capacity. For this reason, we have decided to set up our new commissioning centre with modern infrastructure at Hennigsdorf.”
