Why we need a train to Avalon Airport

This week has the bi-annual Australian International Airshow a brilliant and very very popular event.

How does one get there with little stress? You catch the train of course but that only goes as far as Lara Railway Station and then you have the shocking transfer from the train to the bus. That would normally not be a problem but then trying to get into and out of the site is real messy and time consuming.

This is course years ahead of try to drive as one poor fellow recently posted today:

Traffic control in Avalon – you think last time was bad? And it’s worse this year. Most of the coppers and lollipop guys don’t know what they doing, and the roads are already clogged up like your grandpa’s toilet with cars overflow to M1 after a 15km queue, and it’s only Friday!

A train to the terminal would be fantastic and allow easy access and could be used daily for current and expanded flights into and out of Avalon. Could be done for a very cheap price compared to Melbourne Airport Rail Line costs and Avalon Airport is happy to assist.

Linfox want the rail link why not get it underway.

The new freight terminal being built at the Airport could also benefit from the rail link.

  1. Transport Planning in this state of Victoria is beyond a joke. More effort is taken to talk about why things should not be built rather than being like Asia and getting it done fast and properly.

  2. Modal change can be a pain the issue being you are still in heavy traffic. Avalon rail should have been completed years ago when the airport became international and yes the planning here in Victoria does not work.

The rail Line is a no brainer.

    1. Ridiculous comment to suggest a rail line for 7km from Lara for use every 2 years for three days. Cheaper to put in a bus only lane. If people wish to drive that’s their problem.

      1. Why?

A rail service to an airport that is hard to get to with a capacity abundance and cheaper landing fees is what governments all around the world are doing right now. Most secondary airports have rail passenger to ease the transport burden for air passengers.

    1. Yes. It makes it slightly hard to make a serious point when you can’t get even basic facts right. Basic, basic things.

    2. Apologies from the EDITOR when I read this article and approved without seeing the Avalon v Lara Railway Station has now been corrected.

  3. Mistakes happen to be fair to the Editor…..as we all make mistake at some point….

so not fair to bag anyone to who make mistakes.

If we were all perfect to the point we don’t make mistakes, we would not spend a good period of our lifetime in school or Uni trying to improve ourselves….
