Megan McCracken, chair, Freight and Logistics Council WA, & Leadership Coach, Pleiades Consulting, & non-executive director, Pacific Energy Limited has opened the Heavy Haul Rail event in Perth.
HHR will bring together key decision makers, the agenda will showcase the best in local and international project expertise, giving attendees an understanding of the strategic directions of major players together with critical industry and market updates to ensure efficient, safe and reliable operations.
“I called all 23 members of the Freight and Logistics Council individually and they all said that the resilience of our freight network was top of mind for them,” she said.
“This is a huge deal, 80 per cent of our freight comes across the East West rail line.
“We need infrastructure that can withstand greater severity of weather, we need alternate routes and rapid recovery plans to keep our networks resilient.”
McCracken explained that the rail network needs to meet the needs of the growing and changing economy.
“We need to pay serious attention to future proofing the East West rail line, we need to think to a long term view of heavy haul rail,” she said.
McCracken celebrated the diversity of this years event.
“Last year we put a callout to increase young professionals and women attending HHR,” she said.
“Young professionals make up 10 per cent of the audience, which is up 40 per cent from last year.
A number of companies answered the call to bring 30 per cent of their delegates as women, five companies met the 25 per cent mark of our 450 in person attendees.
