TAP Air Portugal is seemingly the next target for Europe’s larger airline groups, namely Lufthansa, Air France-KLM and the International Airlines Group (IAG). The reasons may not be immediately clear: the Portuguese flag carrier does not have a particularly strong presence in the European domestic market, at least compared to its possible buyers, and offers very little to complement existing long-haul networks to high-yielding North American destinations. Instead, several reasons explain why TAP might be of value to new European airlines.
