Greater Anglia customers reminded to check before travelling over Easter due to engineering works

There are planned essential engineering works and upgrades taking place on parts of the Greater Anglia rail network over the Easter period.

While much of the rail network will be open this easter, passengers are reminded to check before they travel so they are aware of timetable changes linked to the bank holidays and engineering works.

Key services affected by alterations include:

  • Great Eastern Main Line services between Colchester and Shenfield on Sunday 20 April and Monday 21 April, with bus replacement services in place between Colchester and Billericay, Sudbury and Marks Tey as well as between Braintree and Witham
  • West Anglia services in the Cambridge area from Friday 18 April to Monday 21 April inclusive, with bus replacement services in place between Bury St. Edmunds and Cambridge as well as between Ely and Cambridge

Customers can find all train times by using the journey planner on the Greater Anglia website or app.

Martin Beable, Greater Anglia’s Managing Director, said:

“Although services on most Greater Anglia routes will be running normally over Easter, there is some essential engineering work taking place at some key locations on our network. It’s vital that this work is carried out to maintain high punctuality and reliability standards, while also making the railway fit for the future. Progress on significant upgrade projects such as the new station at Beaulieu Park (north of Chelmsford) and re-signalling in the Cambridge area will be made as a result of the work taking place over Easter.

“We would like to thank passengers in advance for their understanding while this work is carried out.”

Katie Frost, Network Rail’s route director for Anglia said:

“This Easter bank holiday, our engineering teams will be out across the network repairing, maintaining and renewing your railway to keep it working reliably and safely for everyone.

“Passenger numbers are generally lower over bank holidays which is why we work together as an industry to do as much work as we can, making the most of this time whilst disrupting the fewest journeys possible.”
