German manufacturer Dornier was a widely trusted planemaker in the late 1900s, having built the popular Do 228 and Do 328 models, both of which had achieved relatively widespread commercial success. During that time period, the company faced financial troubles and was eventually acquired by US-based manufacturer Fairchild, which had built a few successful turboprop models.
