The idea of an airline establishing a low-cost subsidiary is not inherently strange. There are tons of different brands globally that have higher- and lower-brand products. The car industry is probably the best place to look for comparisons, but they do exist entirely across the consumer market. For example, Japanese global car giant Honda has a separate higher-tier label, Acura, for its luxury and performance-oriented car designs. The same is true across the entire vehicle manufacturing industry.
