The United States Air Force (USAF), unhappy with having 186 F-22 Raptors from the late 1990s and early 2000s plus an inventory growing to 1,372 F-35A Lightning IIs, is investing billions in the next generation of fighter jets. With the F-22s already 20 years plus young for the USAF, the time to start developing the cutting-edge fighter alongside a new combat drone is now.
