The new C-series train is here

The first C-series train is ready for passengers, marking a significant milestone for the METRONET WA Railcar Program.

Made from over 50 per cent local materials and providing over hundreds of jobs for Western Australians, the train is the first of 41 that will join Perth’s rail network.

The WA Railcar Program will deliver 246 new C-series railcars to service new METRONET projects, replacing the older A-series trains, and six new diesel railcars to replace the existing Australind service between Perth and Bunbury.

In a first for public transport in Perth, railcars can now undertake their extensive testing regime in Western Australia. Previous B-series railcars were manufactured and tested in Queensland and deployed directly onto our network.

In June 2021 the Facility was completed to allow the first railcar to be built. With the additional completion of the High Voltage Testing Facility, all testing and commissioning can now occur in WA instead of using interstate and overseas suppliers.

Featuring higher-backed seats, upgraded displays and USB ports under select seats, the rail cars will help more passengers ride safely, reliably, and comfortably on the Joondalup and Mandurah lines and service the growing rail network facilitated through the METRONET program of works.

The first C-series will make its debut on the METRONET Yanchep Rail Extension Project when the 14.5km of new line and three new stations open this year.

In less than a month, 150 Western Australians will have the opportunity to ride the first ever METRONET C-series railcar when it takes off on Sunday, 7 April.
