Next month (April), teams from across the rail industry are taking on a virtual ‘Station to Station’ Challenge, in support of the Railway Benefit Fund. From 22 April to 13 May, teams from Porterbrook, Freightliner, Avanti West Coast, Railway Industry Association, Amaro, Clemtech, Furrer + Frey and VTG will work together to walk or run over 2,000 miles.
As part of the Challenge, team members track their real-world activity along a virtual route in a step challenge app, which sees them move along the map of the UK, calling at key station milestones along the way. Starting at Inverness, the teams will virtually walk between 23 iconic stations, including:
Aberdeen, Edinburgh Waverly, Newcastle, York, Leeds, Manchester Piccadilly, Nottingham, Norwich, London Liverpool Street, London Blackfriars, Brighton, Southampton Central, Salisbury, Exeter St Davids, Penzance, Bristol Temple Meads, Cardiff Central, Holyhead, Crewe, Liverpool Lime Street, Preston, finishing at Glasgow Central.
Last year, the team’s smashed their target and collectively walked an incredible 1,019 miles, with Clemtech taking the trophy for the most steps completed. [Person from Clemtech said]
The Station to Station Challenge is part of RBF’s annual Railway Family Week event. Founded in 2021 as a result of the pandemic, Railway Family Week is a celebration of the railway industry and all those who are part of it. The aim of Railway Family Week is to raise £50,000 for the RBF; a charity that provides financial support to current, former and retired railway staff and their dependents across the UK.
Spaces to take part in the Challenge are limited and the cost to enter a team of 6 is £300. To enter a team, visit: www.railwaybenefitfund.org.uk/station-to-station-challenge or email fundraising@railwaybenefitfund.org.uk
