Ukraine’s iron ore exports through the Polish Izov-Hrubieszów border crossing have grown by 43 per cent in March. Ukrainian Railways has observed a growing trend throughout 2024. Other types of goods saw their volumes decrease.
According to Ukrainian Railways, the 43 per cent growth in iron ore exports amounts to an additional 63,7 wagons on a daily basis. In January, 126 wagons with ore were transported per day, whereas in March this number increased to 210 wagons per day.
Other types of goods saw a decline in volumes. Coal imports decreased by 46 wagons per day as the end of the heating season approached. Container transfers and grain cargo also decreased, by 15 wagons and 8,5 wagons per day respectively.

Iron ore remains the most transported commodity through the Izov-Hrubieszów border crossing. Since the beginning of March, over 4200 wagons have passed through it. The second place is taken up by containers at over 1800 wagons. Over 750 wagons of metals were also transported across the border in March.
The border crossing is dealing with long queues. Currently, the waiting time is more than 15 days. PKP LHS stated that it would try to speed up the transfer of cargo, but that it was limited by the capacity of the terminals.
