Young man dies at North Adelaide railway pedestrian crossing

A 19-year-old man who was hit by a train at a North Adelaide pedestrian crossing died at the scene, police have confirmed.

Emergency services were called to War Memorial Drive about 1pm, following what police described as a “serious crash”.

Police later confirmed the man died at the scene, and have since said they believe there were no suspicious circumstances.

They said a report was now being prepared for the coroner.

Passengers on the Gawler-bound train were helped off the railcar as emergency services gathered at the scene a short distance away.

Road restrictions were in place and train services were interrupted, with substitute buses running between Adelaide Railway Station and Mawson Lakes along the Gawler line.

Police said the railway line had since reopened.
