Tickets are now on sale for the special “Bucket & Spade” charity charter on 5th June, an opportunity to enjoy a day out and help with raising funds for the Railway Benefit Fund (RBF) to support current, former and retired UK railway people and their families.
Those taking a seat will be hauled by Class 40 locomotive D213 Andania with First Class Intercity carriages from Crewe for a day trip to the east coast seaside resort town of Scarborough.
Jo Kaye, CEO of RBF said: “The charter will pick up and set down at Crewe, Warrington Bank Quay and Manchester Victoria. There is also the option to stop off at York and spend the day enjoying its many attractions if you prefer.”
The event will raise vital funds for RBF which has seen demand for its services nearly triple in the past five years. In 2023 over 500 applications were received resulting in more than 1,000 railway people receiving direct financial support and many more receiving advice and signposting.
Commenting on the charity charter, Jo said: “Ticket options are £199 and £99 for First Class dining or non-dining respectively.
“First Class Dining includes a full traditional English breakfast on the outward journey and supper on the return. First Class (non-dining) is the same comfortable seats with tables and the option to purchase light refreshments from the buffet bar.
“Our aim is to provide a good value, enjoyable day out for everybody whilst raising money to support the railway family. The dining option is a great way for rail companies and local businesses to get involved for corporate entertaining, staff incentives and all to support our valuable work within the industry.
“There will be a charity raffle and other activities on the day and all proceeds from this event help us to support the members of the railway family when they need us.”
