Northrop Grumman's B-2 Spirit is a heavy strategic bomber designed to perform penetrating nuclear strikes and anti-aircraft defenses. Designed to drop conventional and thermonuclear weapons, the B-2 bomber performed its first flight in 1989 and entered service in 1997. In total, 21 examples of the B-2 aircraft were built between 1987 and 2000 and distributed among various command centers within the United States Air Force (USAF).
