First developed in the early 1950s, the MiG-21 was designed by the Soviet Union's Mikoyan-Gurevich design bureau and combined all the latest advances in Soviet fighter and interceptor technology. Today, the type remains the backbone of some air forces and has seen more combat action than most other fighters in the skies.
