A new report released by Austroads has outlined practical measures to accelerate the development of transport infrastructure projects and programs of up to $500 million.
The report emphasises the identification and mitigation of potential issues at each stage of the project delivery lifecycle.
Austroads Manager for the Transport Infrastructure program, Ross Guppy, said that many projects need expedited delivery because of external factors like environmental disasters or changes, financial stimulus and challenges, and government priorities.
“To accelerate the delivery of these projects, road authorities may adopt more novel approaches to planning, project management, design, procurement or construction,” Mr Guppy said.
The report is designed to help authorities manage these new approaches and is structured in two parts:
- Research Results and Best Practices
This section details the outcomes of the research into project and program acceleration, emphasising the significance of sharing best practices - Practitioner Guidelines and Case Studies
Providing practical insights, this section follows the project/program delivery lifecycle, addressing potential issues at each stage and emphasising the delicate balance between project timing, quality and costs
“The project provides a robust foundation for accelerating projects, ensuring a balance between speed, quality and cost-effectiveness.”
