The ARTC have announced that the Albury line will be closed on 5 February 2024 for track possession construction work, as part of the Inland Rail project.
Work will be centred around Wangaratta, where the Green St bridge will be removed, and further work will be carried out around the railway station.
Station works include installing drainage along a 200m section of track, removal of the unused “dive” platform, and approved vegetation removal.
Cranes will be used to remove the Green Street bridge deck and pier, which will then be demolished and removed off site.
ARTC Victoria and South Australian General Manager Projects, Ed Walker, said that this is another exciting milestone on the project with the removal of one of the impediments to running double-stacked freight trains to Melbourne, the Green Street bridge.
“We have to close the track to carry out these works safely and efficiently and we thank the people of the north-east for their patience and understanding.”
