During a takeoff roll down the runway, pilots are constantly monitoring the aircraft’s speed. There is a specific speed, Vr, at which the pilots rotate – apply back pressure on the control column to lift off. Prior to approaching Vr speed, there is another specific speed, V1, which is known as the point of no return. It is the speed at which the takeoff can no longer be aborted, even if the engine fails.
