As an airport’s passenger numbers grow, so does its need for additional capacity when it comes to the facility’s infrastructure. While the construction of new terminal buildings is one obvious way of increasing a given airport’s footprint, it can also sometimes be necessary to build new runways in order to handle the growing traffic. As more are built, the facility’s surface area expands further outwards.
