Customers at Balham station now have new Ladies’ and Gents’ toilets, thanks to train operator Southern Railway’s station improvement programme.
For years the station had just one toilet, an accessible facility that was available for all passengers, making it more likely to be engaged. The new toilets relieve the pressure, not only keeping the accessible facility free for those who need it most but also allowing more time for cleaning and maintenance.
The two toilets, on Platforms 1 & 2, have been created in what used to be a staff area. Other space has been extended for staff facilities.
Keith Jipps, Infrastructure Director for Govia Thameslink Railway, which operates Southern services, said: “This is a neat conversion into smart new facilities for our customers. These improvements might seem small but they make a very welcome difference to comfort and travel experience for thousands of passengers using the station.”
