In 2024, American Airlines will celebrate its 50th anniversary at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). Although American Airlines was originally founded in the 1920s and began operating in the 1930s, the airline has only been flying out of DFW since 1974. The airline moved its headquarters from New York to Fort Worth, Texas, in 1979, just five years after the airport opened. DFW would become the airline's first hub airport and, to this day, is the largest hub in the American Airlines network. The airline has continued to invest in its operations at DFW over the last 50 years and has assisted in growing the airport to one of the busiest airports in the world.
