In August last year, Australian flag carrier Qantas posted an underlying profit of AU$2.47 billion ($1.63b) for the twelve months ended June 30, 2023, after losing around AU$7 billion ($4.62b) in the previous three years. Rather than basking in a warm afterglow, within weeks, long-serving CEO Alan Joyce was marched out the door, and Australia’s competition regulator launched legal action accusing the airline of selling tickets for flights it already knew were canceled.
