The VIA Historical Association has added three additional passenger cars to its growing fleet of equipment. In late 2023, the non-profit dedicated to preserving the history of Canada’s national passenger carrier acquired two Dayniters and a baggage car. The cars previously ran on the Ontario Northland.
Those three pieces of equipment will join a VIA sleeper and FP9 6539 (currently Ontario Southland 1400) that will be part of a 50th-anniversary exhibit train the group hopes to run in 2028.
The passenger cars were recently moved to a secure location where they are being repainted into VIA’s iconic blue and yellow paint scheme. VHA President Jason Shron said the cars are in excellent condition and only require painting and cleaning.
VHA has partnered with other groups to save and restore pieces of VIA equipment, including an LRC and RDCs. For more information and to donate to the effort, visit viahistory.ca.
