American Airlines is the world's largest airline by fleet size. With nearly 1,000 narrowbody and widebody jets in its mainline fleet, the carrier is known for the diversity and longevity of its fleet. In the late 1980s and the early 1990s, the carrier operated the British Aerospace 146 as well as the older Boeing 737 variants.
