Tender for integrating standard gauge at port of Valencia is out

The Valencia Port Authority has put out a tender for the expansion of the port’s rail infrastructure. The project entails the replacement of the current single-track connecting the Poniente and Levante docks with a three-track mixed-gauge railway.
Once the project is completed the Levante Railway Terminal will be able to handle 750-metre freight trains on both the Iberian and standard gauges. Other than laying the new railway, the company that will win the tender will have to electrify it and make it ready to receive the expected increased volumes.

The contract is valued at a little over 12 million euros, and the construction needs to be carried out within 18 months from the start of the works. The design of the project was made between 2020 and 2021 by Ardanuy Ingeniería. The new line will also grant access to the North Terminal, a massive container-handling facility for which the Spanish government recently granted approval.
