A hoax bomb threat at Sydney’s Central Station has caused a mass evacuation as police crowded the platforms and trains were halted on Monday afternoon.
Authorities evacuated passengers on underground platforms 24 and 25 on the T4 Eastern suburbs and Illawarra line following a bomb threat from an anonymous caller about 2.20pm.
It’s understood the unknown caller alerted police to a bomb on a train.
Police Transport Command immediately commencing inquiries, according to The Daily Telegraph.
Footage from inside the bustling train station showed travellers scrambling to escape the underground platforms via a single escalator.
Meanwhile multiple police officers corned off sections of the major station, as they directed passengers away from the platform where a train stood stationary.
However, nothing was located after a thorough search of the area.
The train was subsequently cleared at about 2.45pm, with normal services resuming on platform shortly before 3pm.
Officers from the Police Transport Command unit have now commenced inquiries.
NSW Police were contacted for further information.

T4 Sydney Trains alerted passengers of the popular line about the incident as it unfolded.
“Allow extra travel time on some services due to an incident requiring emergency services at Central earlier,” it said via a post on X, formally Twitter, about 2:44pm.
“Send us a message if you need help travelling.”
Central station is one Australia’s largest and busiest railway stations.
It serves as a major transport interchange for rail, bus and private coach services in NSW.
Monday’s scare at the hub was one of multiple bomb threats made in recent weeks regarding the transport network.
NSW Police have confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Inquiries remain ongoing.
