Rightfully so, the Battle of Kursk during the Second World War (or as the Russians still prefer to call it, the “Great Patriotic War”/ ) is remembered first and foremost as the most epic tank battle in history. Between July 5 and August 23, 1943, the Soviet Red Army’s T-34s squared off against the Panzer IIIs, Panzer IVs, and Tiger tanks of the Nazi German Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS.
