CZECH private operator RegioJet has ordered 23 EMUs from Škoda Group under a contract worth €133m.
The order comprises 15 two-car trains and eight three-car sets, which will be deployed on regional services in the Ústí nad Labem region of the Czech Republic by the end of 2026. The two-car version will be 53m long with 142 seats, including 16 in first class, while the three-car train will be 80m long with 228 seats including eight in first class.
The 160km/h trains will be equipped with air-conditioning, 230V power and USB sockets, barrier-free entrances, ergonomic seats and storage areas for bicycles and prams. Each train will also have an accessible toilet for passengers with reduced mobility, with the three-car variant possessing an additional standard toilet.
The trains will enter service on the electric network in Ústí nad Labemunder a 15-year contract signed in November 2023. The network comprises six lines and RegioJet will operate 3.3 million train-km per year under the contract, which is believed to be the largest it has ever won.
RegioJet is investing Koruna 4.5bn in revitalising its fleet in 2024 and 2025, says CEO, Mr Radim Jančura. “We are proud to announce this historic investment, which will not only significantly expand our capacity, but also take the standards of comfort, safety, and environmental sustainability of our services to a whole new level,” he says.
