Eldorado Dredge located in North East Victoria

Eldorado, or El Dorado, is a small town in the Hume region of the north-east of Victoria, Australia, in the Wangaratta LGA. At the 2016 census, Eldorado had a population of 264, down from a population of 287 at the time of the 2006 census.

This bucket dredge began production in 1936 and produced 70,664 ounces of gold during 18 years of operation. It was the largest dredge in the Southern Hemisphere and pulled the third most amount of power from the State Electricity Grid after Melbourne and Geelong.

You can walk across the gangway and look inside the massive innards of the dredge. There is an easy 750m (15 minute) walk around the pond with boards which tell you about the dredge, its operation and the environment.
