CAF celebrates two wins at Women in Rail Awards

CAF has scooped two titles at this year’s prestigious Women in Rail Awards both recognising the outstanding commitment of employees to promoting and supporting equality, diversity and inclusion.

Mike Perrett, CAF Rolling Stock UK Manufacturing Engineer, picked up the Male Apprentice of the Year Award and Luke Ryan Martin, CAF Rolling Stock UK Supply Chain Activation Manager, was named Rising Star of the Year.

Mike joined CAF in 2021, his first role in rail, progressing to Team Leader just 12 months later. Leading by example and acting as a mentor, he supports peer development through promoting professional sponsorships.

Mike actively supports CAF’s charitable community initiatives and, a trained Mental Health First Aider, has played an intrinsic role within CAF’s Mental Health programme, particularly in the areas of neurodiversity and men’s mental health.

Joining CAF in 2020 from the aerospace industry as a Production Controller, Luke’s exceptional analytical and organisational skills were quickly recognised with two promotions in three years. Committed to inspiring the next generation, Luke supports a range of STEM activities.

Alongside his day job, Luke is a trained Mental Health First Aider and advocate and an active member of CAF’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee. He represented the organisation as a volunteer at the 2023 Pride parade in Cardiff and led CAF’s Breast Cancer Awareness initiative.

“We are delighted that Mike and Luke have been recognised at this year’s Women in Rail Awards,” comments Kane Jellyman, CAF Rolling Stock UK Head of Production.

“They both demonstrate an impressive work ethic, commitment to the rail industry and the desire to make a real difference not only within CAF and for their colleagues, but for our customers and the communities in which we operate.

“Winning these prestigious awards is very much deserved and we are extremely proud of them both.”

CAF was also shortlisted in the Social Value Award category at the 2024 Women in Rail Awards which showcased and rewarded individuals and companies who have made a significant contribution to improving gender balance, diversity and inclusion in the UK rail industry.

A Women in Rail/Railway Industry Association Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Charter signatory and Women in Rail Gold Sponsor, CAF says that it recognises the benefits of a diverse workforce and is creating an inclusive culture where everyone feels valued and can reach their full potential
