First introduced in 1997, Airbus formed its Airbus Corporate Jet (ACJ) division, following Boeing’s launch of the Boeing Business Jet (BBJ). The BBJ was based on the commercial 737 and Airbus followed suit with an executive Airbus 319. They were designed as competition against the larger private jets in the industry, such as those made by Gulfstream and Bombardier.
