Metrans’ terminal in Slovakia just got bigger

Metrans, the rail freight subsidiary of HHLA, expanded its terminal in Dunajská Streda, near the Slovakian border with Hungary. The terminal now has 50,000 extra square metres of space which will be used for container repairing, storaging, and washing.
One of the terminal’s main connection is to Halkali, west of Instanbul, Turkey. It was launched in July 2022. Additional stops in Budapest and Belgrade were added to this service in March 2024. Moreover, the terminal has rail links to the Adriatic ports of Trieste and Koper, various connections to Austria and Czechia and a few domestic services within Slovakia.

Metrans’ hub in Dunajská Streda

With the new expansion plan, the facility will cover 326,000 square metres. It can count on nine tracks, five suitable for 650-metre convoys and four that are 550 metres long. Other than European connections, Metrans also carries out a service to the Chinese city of Xi’an, launched to transport mineral infant water active since 2021.
