Queensland Rail is bringing back nine one-way Bundaberg Tilt Train services per week after they were temporarily suspended for essential maintenance in July 2023.

The Rockhampton Tilt Train will also return to 15 one-way services per week after it was temporarily reduced to 10 one-way services during the maintenance period.

Works included extensive maintenance to the traction and braking systems, carriage couplings and other mechanical improvements.

Minister for Transport and Main Roads Bart Mellish explained why the works were so important.

“Safety is Queensland Rail’s number one priority and the works delivered over the last 14-months have bolstered the safety and reliability of the Electric Tilt Train fleet,” he said.

“It’s great to see the Bundaberg Tilt Train back on track, connecting thousands of customers between Bundaberg and Brisbane to family and friends, medical appointments, and tourism experiences.”

While maintenance works were underway, the timetable was supplemented by additional Spirit of Queensland services to offset the reduction in Tilt Train services.

Queensland Rail CEO Kat Stapleton spoke about the service.

“We are encouraging customers to get back onboard the Tilt Trains with bookings for travel from 2 September, now available,” she said.

“We look forward to welcoming back our customers onboard the Tilt Trains.”

With both the Bundaberg and Rockhampton Tilt Trains returning to their full timetable, the Spirit of Queensland will go back to eight one-way services per week.

Services will return from 2 September 2024.
