One of the most used airports for private aviation is Aspen-Pitkin County Airport (ASE) in Aspen, Colorado. The airport is frequently used due to how close it is to a variety of ski resorts in the area. However, on Tuesday evening, June 4, an electronic sign located at the beginning of one of the airport’s runways caught fire. The fire resulted in heat damage to the runway itself. This required extensive emergency repairs on the runway, and it also resulted in canceled or diverted flights, per Aspen Daily News.
