Railway Bridge blown up by mistake

Police are currently investigating how the demolition of the 110-year-old bridge in Graubuenden, Switzerland, where Castielertobel Viaduct and its two 50-metre-high stone pillars were demolished on May 13th.

The Castielertobel Viaduct was a single track railway bridge spanning the Castielertobelbach, and linking the municipalities of Castiel and Calfreisen, in the Canton of Graubünden, Switzerland. It was built between 1913 and 1914 for the Chur–Arosa railway, and was owned and used by the Rhaetian Railway.

The Swiss Federal Office of Transport said that it should have authorised the demolition, and the government itself had apparently informed RhB that blasting was not allowed.
