Cirrus introduced the SR22 in 2001 as the more powerful and capable version of the SR20, and it was an instant success. The following year, the SR22 became the best-selling single-engine piston aircraft in the world and has retained the title every year since. By the end of 2023, the SR22 and its turbocharged variant, the SR22T, had sold 7,737 units, making it the most-produced general aviation (GA) single-engine piston aircraft in the 21st century.
