Vietnam reports multiple optical fibre cable cuts

Vietnam’s internet performance is reportedly suffering due to cuts on three out of five subsea cables serving the country.

There are five submarine fiber optic cables connecting Vietnam internationally, namely APG, IA, AAE-1, Asia-America Gateway (AAG) and Southeast Asia-Middle East-Western Europe (SMW-3). There is also a smaller cable, called TVH which is only 3,367 kilometres long, connecting Thailand, Vietnam and Hong Kong (China).

According to local reports, the TGN-Intra-Asia, Asia Pacific Gateway and the Asia-Africa-Europe are currently offline, leaving the country with connectivity only from the Asia-America Gateway and the legacy Sea Me We 3 cable.

The 3 undersea cable networks—Asia-Africa-Euro 1 (AAE-1), Asia America Gateway (AAG), and Asia Pacific Gateway (APG)—are expected to be fixed in May and June.
