The aspect of fresh crime data which police admit they’re concerned about

Police admit they’re concerned about a worrying rise in youth offenders, saying crime has been “slowly creeping up” post-pandemic.

Youth crime has hit a 14-year high according recently released crime data, with offenders aged 10-17 responsible for 22,298 incidents in the last 12 months.

“We’ve been tracking this for some time now,” Victoria Police Acting Deputy Commissioner Brett Curran told Jacqui Felgate.

“Crime has been slowly creeping up and this is a 7.9 per cent rise…the only thing I’d say is we’re still 6.2 per cent below pre-pandemic levels.”
