Nationwide contactless payment system coming for public transport

A new nationwide ticketing system will soon allow public transport users to pay via contactless cards and other digital payment methods.

The National Ticketing Solution (NTS) will allow payments by contactless debit or credit cards, as well as digital payment methods like Apple Pay and Google Pay.

It will start in Auckland later this year and be in use across the country by the end of 2026.

Transport Minister Simeon Brown said the NTS would make public transport services more convenient, easier to use, and deliver a consistent experience no matter where Kiwis were or what service they were using.
