Albury line closed for Inland Rail work

The Albury line will be closed between 3am and 9pm on Monday 5 February for extensive Inland Rail track possession construction work.

Work will be centred around Wangaratta, where the Green St bridge will be removed, and further work will be carried out around the railway station.

ARTC Victoria and South Australian General Manager Projects Ed Walker spoke about the construction work being completed on the 5th.

“Another exciting milestone on the project with the removal of one of the impediments to running double-stacked freight trains to Melbourne, the Green Street bridge.

“We have to close the track to carry out these works safely and efficiently and we thank the people of the north-east for their patience and understanding.”

Station works include installing drainage along a 200m section of track, removal of the unused “dive” platform, and approved vegetation removal.

Cranes will be used to remove the Green Street bridge deck and pier, which will then be demolished and removed off site.
