The Austrian national rail freight operator Rail Cargo Group (RCG) is implementing a new TransFER connection between Linz, Duisburg and Rotterdam. The new link can be seen as an extension of the Linz-Wels-Duisburg RCG connection.
This, as the company pointed out, will create a direct link stretching from Austria to the Netherlands. The service will have a frequency of four roundtrips every week. It will be suitable for “classic containers to swap bodies and soon also cranable trailers”, RCG said. They are also working on opening the connection for dangerous goods.
Despite the new version of this connection does not include Wels anymore, the city in northern Austria remains a key location for RCG. The company has just started renovation process of their terminal there, where the tracks are being extended to accommodate longer freight trains. By reaching Rotterdam, RCG can provide further connections to the the Maasvlakte and Waalhaven industrial and port areas and the port of Antwerp-Zeebrugge.
