On February 1st, 2024, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the organization that manages all major transport infrastructure in the New York Metropolitan Area, announced that 2023 was the busiest year on record for air travel at the organization's three major airports. Throughout the calendar year, a total of 144 million passengers were reported passing through the doors of John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), and LaGuardia Airport (LGA).
