Ukrainian Railways (UZ) is in talks with Duisport to launch a regular rail connection between the German dry port and the Lisky terminal in Kyiv. “The first train on the route between the Lisky railway station terminal and the port of Duisburg will depart already this summer”, UZ said in a statement.
The company said the service would be dedicated to trailers and containers. From Duisburg, it will also be possible for Ukrainian cargo to reach various destinations in Europe but also the Middle East and Africa.
This project is a consequence of Ukraine’s initiative to be integrated on European railways. Over the first four months of 2024, Ukrainian exports via rail, most of which goes to Europe, increased by almost 50 per cent. Moreover, UZ’s Polish subsidiary was recently granted a license to operate throughout Poland.
