February 1st marks the 25th anniversary of the founding of the oneworld alliance. Originally made up of American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Canadian Airlines, and Qantas, the alliance was founded in February 1999 to form one of the largest cooperative organizations in global air transport. Today, Qatar Airways’ former CEO Akbar Al Baker is chairman of the alliance, which has grown to include 13 voting member airlines with 14 affiliate airlines operating around 3,300 aircraft.
