Cardiff Council has secured £100 million in government funding to develop a new public transport system in the city.

An article on The Construction Index says its proposed Cardiff Crossrail will create a tram link from west Cardiff, through the Cardiff Bay area and connect with a new Cardiff Parkway station on the South Wales Main Line.

The council has appointed construction consultancies WSP and Rider Levett Bucknall (RLB) to provide programme and cost management services.

HS2 has announced the shortlist for a supplier to manage its Automated People Mover (APM) in the West Midlands, with a contract valued at £269 million.

An article on The Business Desk says both Doppelmayr Cable Car and Poma S.A.S have been invited to tender for the operation and maintenance of the assets required for the new transit system at the Interchange station in Solihull.

Two contracts will be awarded to a single supplier for the APM system component of the new HS2 APM.

The first contract, valued at £65 million in 2024 prices, includes the design, supply, integration, installation, testing, and commissioning of the APM System up to its deployment into service.

The second contract, worth £204 million, involves operating the APM system and managing the wider asset for 25 years, including maintenance activities.

Work on a £1 million rockfall prevention project on the main Edinburgh-Glasgow railway line has been completed, Network Rail has announced.

An article on the Project Scotland website says the rail organisation has been working ‘around-the-clock’ for the last four days alongside contractor QTS on the crucial project, with engineers removing over 200 tonnes of material from the 100m-long, 10m-high rockface to the west of Edinburgh in Ratho.

Young people are being encouraged to enter a new photography competition to celebrate two centuries of railway history.

An article on the BBC website says the National Railway Museum (NRM) and the Railway Photographic Society have teamed up for the Railway 200 project.

Entrants can submit up to six images of railway-themed photos they have taken.
